Even your coffee can help the environment
Grounds to Green Coffee Grounds Upcycling Program
Rooted in Hong Kong for over 40 years, 7-Eleven has grown with the city. We care about the environment and the community, and we’re committed to doing business responsibly and advancing sustainability.
In 2024, 7-Eleven launched Hong Kong’s first sustainable green cycle of care initiative – the Grounds to Green Coffee Grounds Upcycling Program. As the city’s largest coffee network, 7CAFÉ offers convenient, great-value freshly ground coffee while supporting food-waste recycling and caring for the planet. Grounds to Green turns that commitment into a sustainable green cycle of care – “giving coffee grounds a second life and caring for the Earth together”. We’ll continue to expand this roadmap so we can all live more planet-friendly, every day.
Giving back with flavour
With support from Foodlink Foundation, 7CAFÉ coffee grounds are collected for local charitable organic farms. Using food-waste composters, the grounds are turned into organic fertiliser to grow fresh vegetables, which are donated to ten charities across Hong Kong – including our long-term partner Pei Ho Counterparts in Sham Shui Po – to be cooked into hot meals for people in need.
Upcycling – from coffee grounds to craft beer
7-Eleven partners with Maxim’s Group, supplying 7CAFÉ coffee grounds along with surplus bread and crusts to local start-up BREER. Through upcycling, they brew two craft beers – Original BOB and Coffee BOB – a range recognised with multiple awards for both sustainability and taste.
